BOOKS

This right here is where I post micro-reviews of books I have read and loved.

Anne Fadiman

Books about books are one of my favourite kinds of books. This one is a collection of delightful essays on books and the love of reading.

FERMAT'S LAST THEOREM (POPULAR SCIENCE)

Simon Singh

I read this one a long time ago - but it has stayed with me. Don't be deterred by the theme, it's an easy read if you're even a little comfortable with numbers.

THE COMPLETE MAUS

(GRAPHIC NOVEL)

Art Spiegelman

Spiegelman is a genius. This searing, evocative account of the Holocaust is testament to his brilliance.

Homer/ Emily Wilson

The classical myths always made me nervous but boy am I glad I picked this up! Wilson's translation of The Odyssey is sharp and immensely readable. Now if only they'd bring a reasonably priced copy to India.

A LIFE IN LETTERS (NON-FICTION)

John Steinbeck

As far as I am concerned, this is Steinbeck at his finest. Masterful, intimate writing on creativity, friendship, marriage, love, life, and writing

CUCKOLD (HISTORICAL FICTION)

Kiran Nagarkar

The story of Meerabai and her husband, the Mewar heir apparent. Exquisitely writing.

"We were that rarest of couples. Even after years of marriage we were madly in love. I with her and she with somebody else."
